Six per cent increase in physics entrants

As the Scottish Qualifications Authority releases the results for 2014’s Higher examinations, the Institute of Physics has welcomed a 6% increase in the number of students choosing to take the physics course.

The number of students has risen from 9,629 in 2013 to 10,209 in 2014. The Advanced Higher in Physics has also seen an increase in entrants from 1,929 in 2013 to 1,948 in 2014.

Alison McLure, the Institute of Physics (IOP)’s National Officer in Scotland, said, “This is great news for Scotland. We’re seeing increases year-on-year and no matter what the result of the independence referendum, we can be sure that physics will be integral to Scotland’s future.”
