Reflections on light

21 October 2015

To celebrate the International Year of Light, the Institute of Physics in Scotland has launched a competition for primary and secondary schools. The challenge is for pupils to tell us a story about light through a poster and a supporting essay.

There are three age groups: P6–7 (primary), S1–3 (BGE) and S4–6 (senior).

The aspect of light we want pupils to explore varies across the age groups. We’re asking primary pupils to think about visible light – including colours and colour mixing – while secondary pupils can consider light beyond the visible, its applications and uses.

The deadline for entries is 29 February 2016.

Finalists will be invited to a celebration event in summer 2016. There are individual prizes for pupils and the winning school in each category will receive a trophy.
