The Institute of Physics are delighted to announce that the inaugural Festival of Physics will take place on the 4–5 November at George Watson's College in Edinburgh.

This is a new endeavour for the IOP in Scotland, and will be a two-day celebration of the role of physics in our lives, with an emphasis on cross-disciplinary content that demonstrates the intersections of science and other forms of culture, and celebrates the roles of Scottish physicists in the inventions and discoveries that have shaped our world.

The programme will be family- and teen-oriented during the day, with events for adults taking place during the evenings. The content will be a mixture of hand-on activities, performances, talks, debates and exhibitions.

Alongside the main programming, an open call for proposals will be launched in May, with our members, associate societies, institutions, and individual science communicators invited to apply to bring creative content to the festival and inspire a new generation of curious minds.

The IOP will provide support and guidance to the development of new content for the festival, and offer free training in science communication for members wishing to develop their public engagement skills in advance of the event. Anyone interested in being a part of the festival should contact Siân Hickson, Public Engagement Manager for Scotland on sian.hickson@iop.org for further information.
